Some thoughts about recovery. * Take what you like and leave the rest.
Recovery from codependency is an individual process thatnecessitates making mistakes, struggling through problems, andfacing tough issues.
Expecting ourselves to be perfect slows this process; it puts us in aguilty and anxious state. Expecting others to be perfect is equallydestructive; it makes others feel ashamed and may interfere withtheir growth.
Expecting others to be perfect puts us in that codependent state ofmoral superiority. Expecting ourselves to be perfect makes us feelrigid and inferior.
We do not need to go to the other extreme, tolerating anythingpeople throw our way. We can still expect appropriate, responsiblebehavior from ourselves. But most of us can afford to loosen up abit.
